MME is a Two-Way Bilingual School

MME is a two-way bilingual school (TWBI) in which all students are multilingual learners.  The main language of instruction is Spanish in grades TK-3 starting with a 90:10 (Spa:Eng) language ratio that changes each year to include approximately 10% more English per year.  Grades 4-6 are taught in a 50:50 language ratio.  Core subjects such as math, science, social studies are taught primarily in Spanish.  MME follows all State of California Standards in all subject areas.  Our instructional model (how we teach State Standards) is the SEAL instructional model, designed specifically for multilingual learners.

SEAL is a comprehensive instructional model of enriched language and literacy education for all students at MME grades K-6. Students in SEAL develop powerful language skills through thematic units that are based on science and social studies standards that are fully aligned with the California English Language Arts/English Language Development standards. SEAL has been a critical partner in our whole school system change by shaping our pedagogy, improving home-school connections and empowering teachers to engage collaboratively while designing joyful and rigorous thematic units.
