Connection, Care and Academic Excellence
One of the unique and special components at MME is our Bridge program. This academic support and mentorship program serves to bridge the gaps in student academic agency and empowerment with support from UCD tutors. Bridge serves students by providing tutoring, mentoring and enriching arts, sports, and stem activities after school through a collaboration with the UC Davis work study program. Our UCD students are matched with one to two students and meet several days per week to help with reading, ELA/SLA, math, science and social studies. The undergraduate students serve as a pillar in the Bridge program as they share their time, knowledge, and experiences of navigating higher education with our MME students and motivate them to think about higher education as an obtainable path for them.
MME Bridge is proud to welcome former lead tutor Antonio Fernandez-Arias as the Student Success Program Supervisor. Antonio has worked as a Bridge tutor for over 4 years with increasing responsibility. He brings a positive attitude, passion for student achievement, and enthusiasm. His goal is to increase learner agency and confidence and build meaningful mentorships for both tutors and students.
Enrollment
Students are invited to participate in Bridge by their classroom teachers and specialist referrals made in collaboration with Antonio. The program prioritizes migrant students and students far below grade level at MME. If you have questions about if your child should participate, please speak with your teacher. Enrollment space is dependent on tutor staffing and availability as our main goal with Bridge is to ensure tutoring is as individualized.
